A frozen AC almost always comes down to one of two things: restricted airflow or low refrigerant. When warm air can't move across the evaporator coil fast enough, the coil gets too cold and condensation freezes into ice.
The most common cause is a dirty air filter. A clogged filter starves the system of airflow. Check yours first — if it's grey and matted, replace it and let the unit thaw for a few hours before restarting.
If a clean filter doesn't fix it, the issue is likely low refrigerant from a leak, or a failing blower motor — both need a professional. Running a frozen system can burn out the compressor, the most expensive part to replace, so shut it off and call us.
